A Game of Thrones: The Board Game – Digital Edition is the digital adaptation of the top-selling strategy board game from Fantasy Flight Games.

One of the hardest things about this game is teaching it to people, this includes those who are familiar to modern board gaming and have a good grasp of their various mechanics. This game is long and complicated but the digital version does a really good job of explaining the rules and taking care of upkeep.

I can see that it might still take some time for those who are unfamiliar with non-mainstream games to grasp how certain rules and mechanics work but with upkeep being taken care of and the helpful tool-tips when you hover over units, cards and symbols on the board, if you’re willing to learn, the game will certainly teach you how to play.

I’ve only had a few issues with the game so far, the main one being a glitch during the tutorial where when moving into an area to attack a card stays locked in the centre of the screen and blocks the majority of the board.

You can move it around but it always snaps back to centre screen while the rest of the tutorial continues to play. I haven’t had this happen during the game outside of the tutorial but the only way to fix it is to resign and restart the tutorial. Hopefully the reason this happens is found and fixed so newcomers to the game don’t get discouraged from the game.

If you want a good tabletop board game where you really need to think about each action you take while keeping a close eye on what your opponents are doing very few games do it as well as The Game Of Thrones board game and the digital version makes it so much easier to play. No setup and tear-down time means you can spend more time playing.

It’s not just about your presence on the board and how to edge your way into winning, It’s just as much what goes on off the board with alliances being made and broken to jostle your way to a victory. It’s often just as important to aid someone with less victory points when they attack so that it benefits you in the bigger picture.

Love the real version and this digital implementation does it justice.
